Reverting from 22.08-iap to previous version of Druid (22.04-iap) fixed the issue.

Speaking to others more knowledgable than me, they suggest this could be a permission issue with kafka/Confluent Kafka and that is likely solved by defining the consumer group in the consumer properties and/or ensuring consumer group has the correct ACLs
