Before I go through each release notes.... Do you know if version 0.12 segments in deep storage will be seamlessly read by version 30.0?
g
i believe so— it's very rare that we introduce a change that means we can't read old segments
also, big jump 😄

I went from 17 to 28… had to roll back due to changes on how the null values were handled… so teams are in process updating queries with correct null value handling :(
Otherwise it was amazingly pretty straight forward
So make sure you test your queries that have special rules or conditions for null values. I think it was introduced in 26 or 27.

@Oleg Yamin Perhaps this guide https://druid.apache.org/docs/latest/release-info/migr-ansi-sql-null would be helpful to keep the cluster to Druid 28, while you are in the process of updating the queries to be sql compliant
o
Yeah I’ve looked at those but I believe those are going to be decommissioned in future releases… so we figured might as well do it right nowvs having to do the same thing anyway in future when we upgrade again.

you should be ok doing 28 with
druid.generic.useDefaultValueForNull = true
(backwards compatibility setting)
this setting will likely be removed in the future as we go to 100% SQL compatible null handling, but it's there for now
