Thoughts: The coordinator makes the decisions about which segments to load or unload from Historicals based on the retention rules. If there aren’t any segments to drop from the cluster during the Deep Storage disconnect, then this should not be a problem. On the other hand, the coordinator also makes balancing decisions and requests that the historical load and delete segments in order to “move” them. When this occurs without access to Deep Storage, Historicals will log the errors but I’m not sure if the segment to move will get dropped from the Historical that had the segment. I don’t think it will. I think it will wait for the load on the target to succeed before dropping from the other historical.
