since it includes transient dependencies too it might not help that much, and also technically we should be verifying that license information hasn’t changed and potentially updating the notice section if there is one (particularly for apache projects which always have one, e.g. updating the year and such)

since this file is used to generate our own LICENSE and NOTICE files

i think actual license changes would be caught by the rat check, so its mainly updating odds and ends

I was thinking that people can check licenses anyway and a license change will show up in the release notes of that dependency

good question, i haven’t looked in a few years, when we were converting to an apache project we looked around a bit and i don’t remember finding anything really

so we built out these tools because initially we were doing it manually which was a nightmare
