Are there any upgrade instructions for deploying Airbyte to Kubernetes via Helm Charts? The K8s instructions allude to deleting all the deployments; do you have to do something similar with Helm? (helm uninstall + helm install?) or will helm upgrade work as intended.

I'm also trying to figure out what turning off all the services is trying to do. Is it just that using
kubectl apply -k
is not sufficient to apply all changes and requires a blank slate? Or is it something more serious like trading off availability for protecting the airbyte system from data corruption
Will I have any issues just running
helm upgrade
to install the next version of AirByte?
Looks like this is a harder question than I thought. My guess is
helm upgrade
should work, but I guess I'll find out the hard way if it doesn't.
I did an upgrade recently of the Helm Chart and it seems like it was able to redeploy everything that was necessary to be redeployed. However, the chart runs the "bootstrap" process each time; which I'm guessing does things like DB Upgrades. This leads me to believe that all of the deployments need to be removed to prevent them from conflicting with the DB migrations. Is this assessment accurate?
we need set RUN_DATABASE_MIGRATION_ON_STARTUP

seems like that defaults to true
I think that's the right call. But I'm trying to figure out if I need to manually delete all the airbyte deployments before upgrading the helm charts to prevent them from interfering with the bootstrap/db-ugprade process; The documentation is lacking in this area
From my observation the answer is yes. Since I don't think there are significant differences between
kubectl apply -k
and
helm upgrade -i
; I don't know for sure without something explicit in the documentation for airbyte helm charts.

Hello Justen Walker, it's been a while without an update from us. Are you still having problems or did you find a solution?

I've still not had a definitive answer on this. It would be useful if documentation were available for upgrading the helm chart. I'll settle for an answer here though 🙂
@Saj Dider (Airbyte) any luck finding some documentation internally? I've tried looking and asking here but so far I've not seen anything definitive. There is also this documentation: https://docs.airbyte.com/deploying-airbyte/on-kubernetes-via-helm/ but I believe this only covers initial install from scratch and uses helm upgrade to make configuration modifications -- No mention of upgrading charts. Update: it covers one unique upgrade case from the old monolithic chart to the new modular chart; however I was never on the older chart so this advice does not apply to my case.
Since this doesn't mention destroying and re-creating all of the deployments manually... can I assume I should be able to run helm upgrade to install newer charts without needing to resort to that destructive operation?

Hey Justen, sorry for the delay. You should be able to run helm upgrade to install newer charts without having to destroy and create all of the deployment manually.

Thanks!
