Rudderstack has a different primary focus than Airbyte. Most of the Rudderstack system is focused on pulling event data from the web client for a web app or mobile app SDKs and pushing that into warehouses.

Airbyte is focused on pulling data from APIs, databases, and files and pushing that into warehouses while providing an easy to use abstraction for implementing your own sources and destinations.

It looks like earlier this year RudderStack launched a “Cloud Extract” feature that more directly competes with us than their original offering.

I believe we have more sources and they have more destinations, but I’m not sure what kind of behavior they support since they are mostly SaaS destinations that seem more designed for collecting event-based data…

From their demo video / docs this looks extremely early stage. I don’t see type information, API configuration of sources/destinations/syncs, API launching of syncs, documentation on how they push and format data for warehouses, or custom sources and destinations (which are all things we support).

Are you looking to process event data (like the Segment use case) or are you looking for a self-hosted extract/load tool?

03/26/2021, 8:33 AMThanks Jared, I'm more into the self-hosted extract tool and that's why I'm currently leaving Segment.
As you mention, I've seen their extract system from cloud service and that's why I was trying to compare Airbyte and RudderStack.
Thank you for your feedback, I think I'll take the time to try both solutions 🙂
