10/15/2026, 3:40 PMcars stream configured as Incremental | Append. It also explains that with CDC you don't need a cursor field, because changes are detected through the Debezium connector stream. [Postgres CDC tutorial]
Some details on how it behaves:
• No cursor field: CDC reads from the transaction/write-ahead log instead of using SELECT statements, so no cursor is required. It also supports deletions. [CDC vs. standard]
• Primary key: A forum answer says a source table needs a primary key to be loaded incrementally with Postgres CDC. Tables without one may not offer Incremental as an option. [Forum: tables without Incremental]
• Append semantics: In Append mode, destination records are never deleted or mutated. Each new or updated record is appended as a new copy, so you may see multiple copies of the same record. [Incremental Append]
• Deletes: If you want deleted records to actually be removed and rows to be unique per primary key, use Incremental | Append + Deduped. It can delete records when the source emits deletions, such as a CDC database source. [Append + Deduped]
One caveat: a forum user reported unexpected behavior with Append mode on Postgres CDC, including deletes not showing up as expected. That was on an older Airbyte version, and the knowledge sources don't say whether it was resolved.
