@kapa.ai Did recently Airbyte has any improvement regarding Auto update schema? since i found this message in one of my connection : "Airbyte applied a change in the schema: 1 stream changed." while i didn't do any review schema changes. Usually i need to to review schema changes manually if there's any update regarding the schema

Thinking completed Yes, Airbyte supports automated schema change detection and propagation [schema change management]. The message "Airbyte applied a change in the schema: 1 stream changed" appears because your connection is configured to propagate schema changes automatically rather than waiting for manual approval. How this works In your connection's Settings tab under Detect and propagate schema changes, Airbyte offers different propagation options [schema change management]: • Propagate field changes only: Only field/column updates are applied automatically (with the exception of streams deleted at the source, which are removed). • Propagate all field and stream changes: Both field additions/removals and stream additions/removals are automatically applied without requiring manual approval. • Approve all changes myself: Syncs continue with the existing schema, and Airbyte requires you to manually click Review changes and save them before they are propagated (matching the behavior shown in your second screenshot). • Stop future syncs: The connection automatically pauses whenever any schema changes are detected. When automatic propagation is enabled, any non-breaking schema change detected before a sync will automatically be applied to the ensuing sync and logged in your timeline/activity feed [schema change management]. Recent platform improvements For self-managed Airbyte instances, Airbyte also introduced a toggle (
DISCOVER_REFRESH_WINDOW_MINUTES
) that controls how frequently automatic schema discovery runs prior to syncs, reducing performance overhead while keeping automatic detection active [v-1.4 release notes]. How to revert to manual review If you prefer having to manually approve every schema update: 1. Navigate to your connection in the Airbyte UI. 2. Go to the Settings tab. 3. Under Detect and propagate schema changes, set the dropdown to Approve all changes myself [schema change management]. 4. Click Save changes. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @kapa.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.

the thing is, i choose : Propagate field changes only and still previously airbyte show a message if schema changes is detected AND i need to review changes to check this, but recently since October 2026, i found that Airbyte do auto-update my schema if there is any schema changes

Thinking completed I'm sorry, but the provided knowledge sources do not explicitly mention a specific platform release or update in October 2026 altering this behavior. However, based on the documentation for how "Propagate field changes only" is designed to work: 1. Automatic propagation is the intended behavior: When a connection is set to
Propagate field changes only
, non-breaking field/column changes are designed to be applied automatically to the next sync without manual approval [schema change management]. Airbyte logs the change (as shown in your first image: "Airbyte applied a change in the schema: 1 stream changed") rather than blocking the sync. 2. Stream removals are now propagated: Airbyte updated the behavior so that if a stream is removed from the source, it is automatically removed from the connection even when set to "Propagate field changes only" [PR 87484; schema change management]. 3. When manual review is normally required: ◦ If the connection is set to Approve all changes myself, you will see the blue indicator and the "Review changes" button to manually approve changes before they apply [schema change management]. ◦ Even when set to automatic propagation, Airbyte will pause and force a manual review if a breaking change occurs (such as the removal of a primary key or cursor) [schema change management]. If your non-breaking changes previously paused for manual review under Propagate field changes only, the platform may have resolved an issue where automatic propagation wasn't being applied as intended. If you require every change to be reviewed before it is applied, switch the connection setting to Approve all changes myself under the connection's Settings tab [schema change management]. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @kapa.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.

@kapa.ai does setting Approve all changes myself also applied for data type changes? or add/deletion column only?
k
Thinking completed Yes, "Approve all changes myself" applies to all detected non-breaking schema changes, not just column additions or deletions [schema change management]. When this setting is enabled: • Detected changes—including column data type changes, additions, and deletions—are not propagated automatically [schema change management]. • Syncs will continue to run using your last saved schema configuration [schema change management]. • You will see the blue indicator and need to manually click Review changes and Save changes on the Schema tab to approve and apply them to future syncs [schema change management]. 👍 0 button 👎 0 button ℹ️ Tip: Mention @kapa.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.
