06/18/2026, 4:32 AMnamespace_format in a destination does not cause connection deletion. However, it can cause other significant issues:
1. Orphaned tables: If you change the Destination Namespace (or Stream Prefix) configuration for an existing connection, any tables previously written to the old namespace/prefix become orphaned â they are no longer synced to, and Airbyte will not clean them up automatically. You must clean them up separately. [Clearing Data]
2. Data downtime / need to clear: Changing namespace-related settings may prompt you to clear affected streams to ensure data continues to sync accurately. [Configuring Connections]
3. Stream uniqueness enforcement: Airbyte requires that stream identifiers be unique across connections sharing the same destination. If changing the namespace causes a conflict with another connection's streams, that could cause sync failures. [Stream Uniqueness]
The connection itself is not deleted when you update namespace_format. You can update it via the UI (Settings tab), the Airbyte API (PATCH /connections/{connectionId}), or Terraform. [API Reference]
> â ī¸ After changing the namespace, it's recommended to clear and re-sync the affected streams to avoid data inconsistencies. đ 0 button đ 0 button âšī¸ Tip: Mention @kapa.ai in the thread for follow-ups or DM the app for 1-to-1 help.
