Discourse is better to build a long-term knowledge base thanks to its indexing feature.

Hm, I see. Also introduces a higher barrier of entry imo though, as I'd wager most people check their Slack much more often than some forum. dbt and others seem to manage just fine as well I'd argue?

We keep most of our community channels on Slack and focus on community support on discourse. DBT support is also run through discourse.
