10/05/2023, 7:50 AM.env file is located in the base of the Airbyte repository. If you're using Docker, you should modify this file before running docker compose up to start Airbyte with your custom configuration [source](https://airbytehq.slack.com/archives/C021JANJ6TY/p1670496754239969). If you're using Kubernetes, you should modify the .env file in the respective directory. Each application will consume the appropriate environment variable from a generated configmap [source](https://docs.airbyte.com/operator-guides/configuring-airbyte). If you're replicating data from a locally stored file on Windows OS, you will need to open the .env file in your local Airbyte root folder and change the values for LOCAL_ROOT, LOCAL_DOCKER_MOUNT, and HACK_LOCAL_ROOT_PARENT [source](https://docs.airbyte.com/integrations/sources/file). If you're using Octavia CLI, the .octavia file is where you configure environment variables and secrets. The file content will be used to set the environment variables of the Octavia CLI container that runs when you call the octavia command [source](https://airbyte.com/tutorials/version-control-airbyte-configurations). If you're still having trouble finding the .env file, it might be helpful to know that it should be in the project root where you cloned the repo to and you run docker-compose from [source](https://airbytehq.slack.com/archives/C021JANJ6TY/p1669989455369569).
