This is an interesting one. Because if you loose all items in your prev encounter and you won, you can quick level that character. And quick leveling states to pick hands worth, 1x armor and 1x gear of common items from Level - 1's stock pile. Someone correct me if im wrong.

You wouldn't quick level because you would have just normal leveled during tally, loot, losses. Replaying an encounter has its own ruleset. Unless you mean otherwise. If they ended up winning you'd get the loot from the encounter at that point to make up for the loot loss anyway. Certainly the problem would come if you aren't prepared after the loss but at that point it'd be of your own doing...

My current concern is how replaying an encounter goes if HC is on. Knowing I can save characters is nice but it feels like a lack of finality. The interesting rule is story deaths are absolutely permanent.

Hey - did we ever get clarity on the Free Company Traits that give additional redraws for "Survival" or some other type of check and how many times you can use it? In particular if each Oathsworn could use it or if it's just for one of them. Also wondering you can use it multiple times per chapter?

Good question. We were wondering about that one for some time. We are destroying survival checks.

That's totally possible, if got many unconscious during encounters. Your just unarmed and have to rely upon your skills and tokens.

Yeah, it's missing the clarification if it's for a whole chapter or for every respective check. I thought it would be for ever check. So for an entire group check or for each Oathsworn check.

Witches chain attack. Is it interrupted after breaking a location?

anything effecting the enemy stops as soon as they get a reaction

Even if it is sort the same attack still?

You might be right, but I am just confused that it does not feel like "additional effect" rather than part of the original attack.

In our case this would be hitting two different enemies or stopping at first.

someone else can confirm (I haven't played witch) but taking the rulebook literally, I believe unless the dmg isn't simultaneous, and that any additional effects of that attack would end
  • m

    Matt Love (he/him)

    09/21/2022, 8:16 PM
like a knockback would end for sure

and not trigger, so I assume even though it's the same attack, any additional dmg would stop (I think it says any additional dmg, idk tho I'm at work)

it's not simultaneous. If you hit a break location it'll trigger a reaction & the acting character's turn will end

I think her cone attack is simultaneous but something like a chain attack is not

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2922257/article/40715360#40715360 I found this. "- chain attacks cannot affect multiple locations of large figures or the same location multiple times unless explicitly stated on the Ability card. Damage is applied to all targets simultaneously, then reactions are resolved one after the other. Thus, reactions do not cancel hits on additional targets. "

    09/21/2022, 8:38 PM
So I would say Shadowborne Games confirmed the opposite, that location break does not stop chain attack? If I am reading this right.

    09/22/2022, 4:59 AM
Yup, a Chain Attack is a single attack applied to all targets at once. After it's done, then you perform reactions.
  • r

    Razuhl

    09/22/2022, 6:25 AM
Yes this also means, chain lightning from the witch, which is allowed to hit the same target multiple times (2 times possible šŸ˜‰) can potentially destroy 2 different locations.

Yeah, this is what I am leaning towards, but when researching I did however find one quote from Shadowborne Games, possibly out of context, contradicting this. I cannot read the context since its chapter ||13 ||spoiler, but this sentence from Shadowborne games came in the search results of boardgamegeek forum with term "chain attack reaction". Shadowborne Games: "Once a reaction is triggered all further damage and effects from the ability card are immediately stopped and the reaction is performed. So you would only ever be able to break one with a chain attack. " However maybe its chapter specific. I do not want to link it here, in case someone just clicks. I do not want to ruin anyone's includes mine experience. So was wondering if Shadowborne can just confirm this one, one way or the other. Because to me it feels like they confirmed it to both ways, and I am going crazy šŸ˜„

    Razuhl

    09/22/2022, 8:52 AM
Yes, this sounds weird, cause as already mentioned it's a simultaneous attack. You're applying all dmg like an aoe, roll/draw once and reduce it for every target by the lowest number. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

We have game sitting on the table waiting for clarification . I cant wait until second print, our witch needs clarity šŸ˜„ I know I can rule one way or the other, but maybe Shadowborne would notice this, as they've been brilliant with clarifications.
