@.leenn regarding VMware vcenter: I see in the ...

Here's a brand new thread for you! Please keep the discussion for this problem in this thread.
n
Do you get any interesting logs from VMware?
Also, could you try restarting your dev LLDAP, doing one query with VMware (trying to find a group?) and then stopping it? The logs you gave me are quite big, it's hard to sift through.
u
Yep will do. I discussed this point with my tech lead at the office ( I’m virtualization engineer) about what to look for in the logs of the vCenter. I’ll have a look today about it.
n
Oh, and if you're using LLDAP in a company, please pitch a sponsorship! Even 20 euros a month (nothing for a company) would go a long way for the project
And we can add your name to the sponsors, or (depending on the contribution) your logo in the readme, and a mention in a release
u
Oh wow, that could be great, but we don't use it in my company (using a deeply customized openLDAP since years, and several Active Directories). I don't know if they allow such sponsoring either. Very big company with tons of rules 😄
n
Ah, since you mentioned your tech lead, I thought it was within a business context 🙂
I know some people use LLDAP for a lightweight test cluster
u
yes it is, because we work together on several projects, professionnaly and personnaly speaking.
at the office, we have dev and prod LDAPs already set up
i can provide a experience about LLDAP to the right team (which is in charge of SSO/LDAPs). They will probably have a look and see if they have interest on it. But since they are working on implementing Okta everywhere ... 😭 I really don't like Okta ....
n
Haha, you can try
But LLDAP is not really well adapted for company scale, usually
Especially big companies
u
yeah, mine is huge 😄 85 countries, more than 20k+ employees
n
Can I ask who it is?
(and what you want to use LLDAP for?)
u
actually i wish to use LLDAP for 2 things : First for my homelab (because AD for a homelab 🤮 ) > Authelia, Gitlab, and my personnal vCenter. Second idea is to maybe use it when i bootstrap a test vCenter Out Of Band, i could use LLDAP for replacing our dev LDAP). So i just pop a prepared VM with docker and some images on it on the same subnet, and bingo, i have some authentication to work with.
n
So who's the company?
And btw, the second use case (I guess it's professional?) could be a prime example of something worthy of a small sponsorship. It doesn't hurt to try to pitch it. I think GitHub sponsors can give you nice invoices and stuff if needed.
You can try to pass that as dev tooling costs, like paying for an IDE
f
@nitnelave its looking on the rootdse for the ad schema partition
Because its assuming ldap is ad
n
-_-
Of course, everything ldap is AD
f
You should proba ly talk to me about kanidm for that scale
I asked them yesterday to investigate if vcentre had an ldap schema flag or option to change it to a unix mode, since its assuming its ad atm
n
Oh, you were talking to the VMware people?
f
Nah to leen
n
Ah okay 🙂
f
I dont have any contacts with vmware
n
I was surprised 😄
f
I actualky used to, but not now
