Hello, does anyone know how to enable
# spicedb
e
Hello, does anyone know how to enable HTTP on spicedb kubernetes service?
y
what's the use case? the operator lets you pass options to SpiceDB using the
config
block - you take the
--kebab-case-options
and translate them to
camelCase:
config keys
e
yes that one, I couldnt find how to translate them, so that should be httpEnabled: true in the config then?
y
correct
e
nice, now the pod responds, I just have to add authentication!
y
right on!
last thing i'll say is that i'd strongly recommend using the gRPC API when you move to production - the HTTP gateway is a best-effort wrapper around the gRPC API, but it's going to be meaningfully slower and also can't implement client-streaming APIs like ImportBulkRelationships
e
Can I use gRPC for Rest calls?
Perhaps a dumb question
I need to read up about gRPC more
I dont want to use any cli for production environment
Ok I definitely need to read up more on gRPC I thought it was only used for the zed cli
y
yeah, it's kind of a whole can of worms. it's good for high throughput and low latency but makes an entirely different set of assumptions and tradeoffs than normal HTTP calls do
load balancers especially are something where we see folks trip
e
Yeah im using a managed kubernetes I dont think their gateway supports it, interesting use case
I dont have any control over the gaateway
