Tried Dendron today!! I've been thinking about getting a notes app for months now, and chose Dendron over Obsidian and Notion And… I couldn't figure it out. I just wanted to add a dendron vault to an existing repo, figure out how schemas work, and publish part of the vault. I was unable to do that. I'm sure it's possible to, but it's just taking way more time than anticipated (I know programming does that… but still) It's been a couple hours and I still: - Don't understand the difference/how to use Self Contained Vaults, Workspaces, Vaults, Pods, and Multi-Vaults - Can't find information on the 
root.schema.yml
which has differences between the tutorial and when I create a new vault. I really wanted to keep all notes in a subfolder called notes, but couldn't find anything about it - Can't easily make a new schema with template. I tried 
create schema from note hierarchy
, tried editing the yml to add a template, and found different ways of referring to a template (none of which worked) - use regular links instead of wiki links. Couldn't find any info on that so I guess it's not possible If I can't even get schemas to work and figure out workspaces, I'm hesitant to even try learning publishing I noticed that there's no support email and support is limited to enterprise clients too, which is disheartening --- If I were to improve the onboarding experience, I would: - make sure all tutorials and examples are updated to the latest version of Self Contained Vaults V1 - make it hard to accidentally find outdated information by following links or searching (happens a lot) - make a youtube playlist tutorial series where everything is the latest version, or even just an hour live stream - make vscode schema files like

so that I know if what I'm typing into the configs is valid or not (see https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2020/11/25/how-to-configure-yaml-schema-to-make-editing-files-easier#)

In 2022 there was a recurring event for beginners for dendron, where Kevin would introduce the app to people. if that happens again, you should def. join! 🙂

The items you mention are really different things: - vaults contain your notes - self contained vaults are quite new and to be honest I haven't seen the advantages so I stick to "traditional" workspace vaults. - workspaces are a Visual Studio Code way to organise data in folders - pods are used to import or export data - you can use multiple vaults to organise different things in a single workspace. E.g. I use a separate vault for my work notes than my knowledge base but keep them under the same umbrella. For a start I suggest you use a single vault within a workspace. https://wiki.dendron.so/notes/o4i7a81j778jyh7wql0nacb/ mentions that self contained vaults are under active development so I wouldn't start with it. If you initialise a workspace with a local vault notes go into a folder called vault. If you change the folder name you need to change it also in the 
dendron.code-workspace
file. I see that self contained vaults use 
notes
by default. Schemas and templates can be difficult. If you share yours I can see if I spot any issue with it. I'm not sure what you mean by regular links so can't comment on that. Support happens through this discord and my experience has been great so far with @kevins8 and @Joshi solving any issues super fast. Hope this helps

file. I thought that their default was to use a notes folder by default too, but it didn't do that for me. > Schemas and templates can be difficult. All the examples I tried didn't work at the time.

On the topic of workspaces: the link you mention on self-contained vaults says "Self contained vaults are a new feature that's in active development, so you should make sure to update to the latest Dendron version if you want to try them." To me this doesn't sound like it's default now but of course I may have missed that. Which part of ulti vault do you see as deprecated? Some config values have changed but besides I didn't find anything in the link? The 
Initialize workspace
command exactly creates a vscode workspace Self contained vaults are currently being rolled out to some of our new users for testing. For users who are randomly chosen for this test, any workspaces and vaults they create will be self contained vaults.
