As a newcomer from Obsidian, I've been searching the docs for two days and haven't managed to figure out how to enable
Workspace: Sync
. Can anyone point to a definitive guide?
s
That command should work out of box if you have initialized vaults as remote git repositories. First some questions: Coming from Obsidian land, have you worked with git before, and are git repos in available remote locations to sync to?
j
I initialized a git repo within the root folder (the one that contains notes/).
s
Nice. Have you added the git repository to a remote endpoint just yet? The GitHub quickstart has a great rundown on setting up git, and setting up a repository on GitHub (as either public, or as a private repo): - https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/quickstart/create-a-repo
(This does remind me that there definitely should be a walkthrough that goes from initializing a new Dendron vault, to initializing git, to setting up a remote location, to setting up something like ssh keys, and then running workspace sync. Dendron wiki doesn't have a tutorial on this just yet)
Steps would be: - Initialize new Dendron vault - Initialize git in the root directory of it (the directory that contains
dendron.yml
,
notes/*
, etc.) - Configuring git (email, username, ssh keys) - Setup a new, remote repository (either private, or public, depending on if wanting it available for anyone to see and contribute to) - Configure for and push to the Dendron vault git repo to the new, remote location -
Workspace Sync
should now work as expected, moving forward, including when adding dependency vaults, etc.
I can help provide links if you need any, to specific steps, depending on your background and experience on what you would like to know 🙂

All of that should be fine...
I do have to enter my SSH passphrase every time I push or pull from WSL on Windows 10.
So maybe dendron needs me to use a keychain of some kind?
Oh, apologies. I realized I switched to VSCode hosted on Windows but only have git installed on WSL. No wonder it didn't work. Thanks for the clarification.

That's alright, WSL can make things funky with paths, where you're running stuff, what configs are being pulled, etc. ;P
