Well, I was really happy to hear about it. A big company like Starbucks pushing the boundaries of the space is great, especially utilizing NFTs in a utility driven fashion. Functionally, this is of course in many ways equivalent to something they could’ve rolled out with their previous rewards program, on their own mobile app. And a lot of brands / companies have tried to do this - I know I have some 7-11 rewards as well, and probably at a few other places. What’s cool about making these rewards redeemable with an NFT, in my opinion, is that they will (hopefully) adhere to an interface such as ERC-721 or ERC-1155. That means while I can see my Starbucks NFTs from the Starbucks app, I also would be able to see it on a crypto wallet as well, such as GameStop Wallet or Metamask. So that’s the part that’s exciting for me. Kind of like how my Apple wallet has become a destination for my gym QR codes, airplane travel tickets, COVID vaccine card, hopefully these NFTs can follow the same interface and be used from many different front ends as well 🙂
