so... it's not about how good is dendron compared to it, they are different. dendrons main idea is it's concept of hierarchical note taking as it's primary means of association. obsidian primarily encourages linking your notes via tags / backlinks, so it still creates a hierarchy in many ways which people refer to as Maps of Content (MOC). honestly.. i do think dendron is better, but i can see a case for obsidian. i have used both. i also have a friend who started with obsidian, and used dendron who liked the latter much better. dendron is also open source. i feel like obsidians strong suit is in a therapeutic sense. when you get into that whole zettelkasten community, and you are trying to create these really compact zettels of information, and link them together. it's something that obsidian encourages because it lacks so little form. but this lack of form is also what makes it hard to use with many notes and where dendron handles it better by introducing some structure.
