Problem, I can't use Dropbox at work. OTOH, git is possible. I just do not know how to do it :/

I think VSCode has ways to use Git—especially if you host your information on GitHub. I think you'll need to pay for a GitHub account in order for your information to be private, though. Maybe other have suggestions / recommendations for tools to use, and ways to learn?
k
I created a private repo on github just to see. It seems to be free (as in free beer). Now, I need to learn how to use it 😄
thanks for your help

Great! And you're very welcome! The official VS Code docs have a few pages on using Git with VS Code. You might start by looking at them? https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/versioncontrol#_git-support Most of the guides I've seen for Git assume that you'll be working with other people on a team; often it's used for developers working on new features in various branches, which eventually get pulled into the main branch. If you're mostly using it to sync new information and not trying to juggle different versions of things (like a rough draft vs a corrected draft of an announcement), I imagine most tutorials will probably look overwhelming, since they'll cover far more than few features I suspect you'll likely use just to share info between computers. I think everyone finds Git confusing when they first learn it!

true. I will probably go: commit, commit, add, commit, push and on my other computer: pull, commit, commit, etc. 🙂
pretty basic after all
Just to be sure. When I VSC, git init is to be done in Notes/notes ? Or just Notes ?
f
That's a good question, and I'm not sure. The instructions I see on the Dendron Wiki don't seem to say, either: https://wiki.dendron.so/notes/vsAxYld4zsbD2XjKoh7OP/ (But they do explain how to make your notes private on GitHub!) Maybe @ScriptAutomate or someone else can clarify where to do
git init
for a Dendron vault?
s
In new vaults made today, you want to
git init
in the root of your vault workspace (where the
dendron.yml
exists). If you have an older vault/workspace, the guidance is different. The updates to how we approach workspaces has made this easier, so we only need to init in the root of a vault now
