and did you install this?
# questions
t
and did you install this?
a
I don't think so. What guide is this?
Just tried--worked with PowerShell as well.
this is the problem, there are so many options and overlapping instructions... 😦
i have node for windows installed but powershell or git bash do not see it from vscode
if not this, then what is the complete sequence of steps?
a
oh, that is strange; they should see it
do they see it when run outside of VSCode?
I also already had node.js installed but I just did it from https://nodejs.org/en/
t
that is the same, i think but let me reinstall
a
Also, you don't have to even have VSCode open to do a local publish. Open your gitbash and cd into the dendron workspace folder and run
dendron publish dev
.
t
yes, install node, install cli, dendron inti, and then...
a
after installing node and cli, I believe you only need to run these from the root of your workspace:
npx dendron publish init
dendron publish dev
t
yes, can see node now, installing cli
a
And another thought--with local publish, you can just save the page as
.mhtml
with styles and pictures as a single file and distribute that. Edge can do that--I just tried:
t
ah, great idea
a
Might not be the smallest file you've ever seen, but it works.
t
i guess i better make a separate workspace just for this vault or it will be huge
a
yeah, could be
t
Command failed with exit code 128
i shall have to try later. have a meeting in 10min. thanks a lot for the tips, @User
a
hope it works out for you in the end
a
Or we can use SingleFileZ in hope for smaller filesize https://github.com/gildas-lormeau/SingleFileZ
a
That is a very cool extension!
Have you got it to work?
t
No.
npx dendron publish init
throws errors and never completes 'Installing dependencies...'
This is an amazing amount of setup to just get a page out of a system.
Do the Settings need to be modified for this local publishing/export? Site URL, etc.?
a
No, I don't remember that I had to modify anything.
Yeah, this is a sore spot for sure and I understand there are plans to improve it make it easier to use.
t
Hm... I am not sure then. I did not work and the logs show information I do not understand, so I hadto give up for the moment as I am working within tight deadlines...
a
Fair enough, tight deadlines I mean. Just out of curiosity, what's your version of Node?
I have 14, so the version shouldn't be a problem then.
> I hadto give up for the moment as I am working within tight deadlines... If you going to pick it up again, feel free to message me. Maybe I could be of help later.
t
The logs end with statements like this, that is why I was asking...
"Error","msg":"Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'siteUrl')"}
unknown error [object Object]

Same problem here when trying to publish a fresh dendron and after doing
npm install @dendronhq/dendron-cli@latest
then
echo .next >> .gitignore
then
npx dendron publish init
(which are the steps I follow each time ...
a Bunch of errors after the last command

and then stuck at

Have you solved this @User ?
a
Are you on windows, @User ?
g
nope mac os
here is the output of the last log
logs
I just updated node to be sure ...
a
This starts looking more like a bug than anything. Let me try wiping out and re-installing dependencies.
g
OK thansk
will check back in some time, unfortunaltely like Tika with ashort deadline here .... hope you can do some magic !
thanks
a
Yeah, I'm getting the same errors and the command never finishes:

I would say this is definitely a bug at this point. Could you please open a Github issue? https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/new?assignees=&labels=&template=bug_report.md&title=
g
any workaround you would see I could use meanwhile ?
downgrading to previous dendron-cli versions ?
a
According to the latest comment (https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/2659#issuecomment-1083574428) it should be fixed. @User @User Could you guys please try it again? Dependencies are installing for me now, but
dendron publish dev
exits with
Copy code

d
I am getting the same swc errors with
npx dendron publish export
a
