It's a multiplayer modification of the game Gta Sa which is absolutely legal, it doesn't modify the game files or code. However, as SA-MP grew in popularity Kalcor established a monopoly and forced server owners to pay in order to keep their servers up. You might ask how is that illegal ? Well let's look at the things in detail. Rockstar games owns the game, the models, the sounds, the code, everything about the game. What does Kalcor own ? A list that displays servers and the game modification itself but what makes it illegal ? The idea of a 'Hosted Tab', monopolizing the server list. The internet tab was disabled, and now he is making maximum possible money by forcing server owners to pay in order to use the modification. If the server owners don't pay, there won't be SA-MP, there won't be as many players, why do players play SA-MP ? Because it's fun -> Why is it fun ? Because it's based on a masterpiece game by Rockstar. SA-MP gives control to the server owners to manipulate those game resources and make fun gamemodes which the players enjoy playing on, it's important to realize the ultimate credit goes to Rockstar for that, not to server owners or Kalcor yet he's enjoying the rewards, as more players are attracted to the servers, the servers earn more (or at least at one point they were profitable), and untimately a part of the money goes to Kalcor, in the form of Hosted Tab. This is a long and intricate chain, a monopoly established by kalcor to suck the money as much as possible. Now to the second point, SA-MP forces people to play on the 1.0 version of the game which is not easily available especially as most people buy the game on steam. Most of the people , even the ones that have bought the game simply download the crack version. So it's promoting piracy. TommyB , a former SA-MP Beta Tester was hosting not one but two versions of pirated Gta Sa, one of them was even modified to decrease it's size which is illegal (Distributing an altered version of the software). It's important to note, before the SA-MP forums was down TommyB was serving as a beta tester and an administrator of the samp forums and the blame of his actions especially that have anything to do with this game / modification goes to Kalcor as he was the one employing him or atleast using his assistance in managing the fraud platform. Similar arguments can be used against other modifications of other rockstar games. I wanted to write a more detailed version, plus these are not all my arguments but since I don't have time right now, I'll be leaving that for later if needed. Hence, SA-MP can be sued. I rest my case.
