Gladly. I and many users.. I would expect go to a discord to get a certain amount of quick response to their issues. When I entered chit-chat, I wanted to chit chat with 2k online users about my issues, but I got immediately interrupted with responses pushing me to a forum, and when i sent a link to my forum it was also not an "acceptable post". That was really unexpected for a business to respond like that and not at least attempt to help before starting a forum... for a question that may not be appropriate for a forum. Forums are a bit tricky for users, but understandably easier to manage as a business perspective, so I get that.. and this is all personal, but it did feel like the issue got "delayed" and "pushed to the bottom of the stack". I understand the problem. Please note that this discord server is not part of Supabase's company, and works in a community way. Also, the <#839993398554656831> channel is not appropriate to ask for help, for the simple reason that it is too difficult to moderate all the requests for help. For this reason, we (moderators) encourage people to ask for the <#1006358244786196510> channel, which is more appropriate.

The <#1006358244786196510> channel is both useful for moderators, but also for newcomers. It may be that a new member joins the discord server for a particular reason, and finds an answer among the previous posts. That's why a post with little information will often be either ignored or moderated.

However, if you have any ideas on how to improve things in the future, we'd love to hear from you!

Ideas: 1. Accept that short posts, with `code` may be the pertinent information. 
2. Allow a bit of discourse before pushing users to a help channel. 3. Fully explain what information you want in a chit-chat forum that is not "help".

For the 3th idea, the <#839993398554656831> is a place where we can talk about *anything* except asking for help (because we have a specific channel for that). For example: "how was your day", or "happy new year", or "hey guys, look what i've done"

A post is only ignored if someone doesn't have an answer to it. Myself, <@764524500162445402>, <@218505052015296512> and others actually view every post in the <#1006358244786196510> forum on a daily basis. However we are not subject experts of everything posted there so sometimes we don't have an answer. Changing this back  to a normal help channel (which we had it as before and it didn't work, its tried and tested) would mean your post would get lost even quicker and context on your post would be between many other posts making it hard for the reader to follow. We won't be reverting this anytime soon as we've been down this road before.

Benefits: You'll get to know the users and their experience which using Supabase. You might also come across improvement ideas directly from the community members.

depending on which language you guys are using, I might as well get my hands a little wet.

There is a good chance we choose NodeJS, but it's also possible we use Deno with their recent npm integration

We could, but some features could require a long time running bot, and functions don't allow that, right?

Or do you mean running functions depending of events the bot receive?

as discord are trying to discourage that now

For example, NanoBit suggested to analyze messages and prompt a specific answer

We could also post a message to regular interval

privilegeIntent are only for bots above 100 server (i guess), so we can still watch the message content

though we don't know till when can we keep running that.

unless you want the users to do a slash command for help. then we might as well just ask manually.

Or we could do it manually too, and make the command accessible to anyone :p

Maybe a simple workaround, a command can be "/help" or something and it would trigger the bot to reply with: "Help questions should go to...." This would reduce burden of having to retype that entire sentence.

One other idea I have, which may be overkill, could be the bot replying to the help messages with perhaps top 3 similar/related questions. I have noticed a few questions asking the same thing that were answered in the past. 

Another idea would be a bot that has a button to "/done" the forum questions and close it/rename title to "resolved". I think I saw this somewhere.

last suggestion seems worth looking at. It is a might numbing exp to ask every other person to rename their title

Is there any chance we could code the bot in deno? I've been using this really cool library called harmony (https://deno.land/x/harmony@v2.6.0), and I've been loving the syntax.

We could, but the most stable dependency to create a discord bot is discord.js, which is on Node. So this is something to think about

Hello, I have just added a PR for the bot. 

Added a `/help <user>` command. It will mention the `<user>` and redirect them to the `#help` channel.

I think this can help reduce the redundant messages in the other channels and hopefully save time.

what if bot can detect words in a message, like "who, what, when, does anyone, can anyone, etc..." and display a message only the user can see with two options (yes, no)  if they'd like the bot to move their message to the help section for better chance of help 🤔

I think this idea would be super cool and I can take it up to organize one in this community to make some contribution here. This will also help Supabase grow and have direct connection with their users.

I appreciate your suggestion of creating an office hour system for our server. However, I wanted to let you know that I had previously considered this idea, this is why your statement "it was my idea" is technically wrong (see screenshot).

You just mentioned Silentworks about this idea, seeming to ignore that Gary and me are also Mods, and now just mentioned all mods in an unnecessary way. Moderators are to be mentioned in case someone breaks the rules of the server, which is not the case here. I don't like that at all.

In the future, let's work together to develop ideas that benefit the community as a whole. Thank you for your understanding.

It would make the server more active and make the interactions and insights with the devs that uses supabase and supabase devs more manageable

Expo did the same thing and I usually go to them when I get stuck in some problem

I did this impromptu a few times and only around 3 people turned up. <@218505052015296512> also organised this a few times and it was sorta the same results. The demand isn’t there so it’s not something I would put much time towards right now. Our community isn’t active enough to need something like this, once activity picks up then we can consider this.

We might do a hackathon to make it active. This will also help Supabase to get more users and folks will also learn a new thing.

I noticed the same thing in expo
They usually get two to three people around and talk a little bit because they don’t announce it in their discord server
Whereas AWS Amplify has lots of people joining in because they usually announce their office hours
